Persistence in your belief. Let's go back to the James Doty book, "Inside the Magic Shop."
He talks about feeling that thing he believed. He brought it to himself. He knew that becoming a doctor was all he wanted to see happen. He focused it into being, prepared himself to be admitted to medical school and he...
...was denied an admission interview. They turned down his application straight away.
But he persisted. And was able to schedule an oral presentation to defend his lousy grades, giving him an opportunity to show what he could do. They accepted him, he tore the roof off medical school, and made his dream of becoming a doctor a reality.
Consistency in your vision takes steps. But the unquestioning belief of you accomplishing your goal keeps your steps moving, every single day.
And there's a joke about this. Mind you, it's not a particularly good joke, but I'll tell it anyway because it illustrates the point.
This person is praying really hard to God. The prayer is simple: "God, I want to be a doctor." Months go past, and no answer. Finally, the person says, "God, I want to be a doctor. Please make it happen." And this thundering sound finally comes from the sky. It's a voice. It says:
"Go to Medical School."
OK, it's not funny, but it makes the point. Believe it, then retrieve it. I know I'm going to be a doctor, now I'm going to do everything I can to make that happen."
Take the steps but BELIEVE that the steps will take you to the place you want to be.
